Desert Quail Inn Hotel Review: Sedona Arizona
I stayed at the Desert Quail Inn for two nights when visiting Sedona to do some hiking. I chose this hotel because it gets great reviews and the price was right. The Desert Quail Inn was considerably less expensive than other area hotels, so I booked it. I’ll review the Desert Quail Inn Sedona hotel and give you my honest take — let’s go!

Location of the Desert Quail Inn – Sedona
Technically, this hotel is located in the Village of Oak Creek, which is just south of the actual town of Sedona.
This is a small, locally-owned motel right in the middle of the Village of Oak Creek, which is a very short drive to Sedona, as well as all of the hiking trails in the area. You can walk to some restaurants, a really good coffee shop and a few other shops right from the hotel. There’s also a Clarks Grocery Store which is located right in the back of the hotel. When I was visiting, there was an arts and crafts fair across the street at the strip mall, which was fun to visit.

Is staying in the Village of Oak Creek okay for visiting Sedona?
Absolutely! In fact, I liked this location better than the location of the hotel (Arabella – read my review here) when I previously stayed in Sedona. While the Arabella’s location is right in the thick of things, it’s also in the thick of traffic, making it an absolute nightmare to get around. Traffic in the Village of Oak Creek isn’t anywhere near as bad as weekend Sedona traffic — plus it’s easy to get to certain popular trailheads like Bell Rock, Little Horse, and the park and ride shuttle lot for Cathedral Rock.

The hikes that are located on the West Sedona side of town will be a bit further of a drive for you but honestly, it’s nothing that bad. There is no one location in Sedona that’s perfect — no matter where you stay, you’ll have to deal with traffic if you want to see all the main sights.
West Sedona is where I’d like to try staying next time. Traffic in West Sedona is much more chill than when you get to the center of town, with all the roundabouts. You also have quicker access to all the trailheads over on that side of town, like Devil’s Bridge or Boynton Canyon. The downside though, is that you’ll have to drive through the heart of Sedona to get to the other popular sites and hikes, like Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, etc. So no matter where you chose to stay, you’ll have to deal with the traffic at some point during your trip.
Rooms at the Desert Quail Inn
The rooms here are very spacious and include a seating space, microwave and a small refrigerator. I had a room with a king bed. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and very quiet at night. Daily housekeeping is provided, which I always appreciate.
This is a motel-style accommodating; there is no elevator if you are assigned a room on the second floor.

Amenities
They have an outdoor pool and hot tub here but I didn’t use it as it was too cold outside. Other than the pool, (and wifi, of course), that’s pretty much it. There is no breakfast here, no gym — it’s pretty bare bones. There is an ice machine near the lobby.

Desert Quail Inn – Final thoughts
I definitely enjoyed my stay here and I would absolutely stay here again. I loved the location and I came to prefer it over staying at a hotel right in Sedona. For me, when I go to Sedona, I don’t need anything fancy, but I do like having a clean, quiet roof over my head and a hot shower when I come back from hiking — and combined with the amazing location of this hotel and reasonable rates, I definitely plan to be back!
