Hotel Review: My Place Tucson South Arizona
I stayed at the My Place Tucson South hotel in Arizona and here is my honest review.
When I first heard of this “My Place” hotel chain, immediately what pops in my head is Nelly’s song, “My Place.”
You know….“Come on over to MY PLACE!”
Is my age showing? Yeah, it is.
Anyway, I’ve always wanted to try this chain, just to have an excuse to sing “My Place” “over and over again” (!). But when push comes to shove, I never stay at a My Place for a few reasons — no free breakfast and no gym, and usually priced just as much as nearby hotels that do offer those amenities.

However, on a recent stay in Tucson, I took a chance on My Place – South Tucson because I couldn’t pass up the price on this place, especially when other hotels in the area were running upwards of $300 a night or more. This was $90. It was a no-brainer. I stayed here for one night after a very long travel day from the East Coast, and it wasn’t too far from the airport.
The My Place Tucson South is a brand new hotel — I think it just opened maybe a month before I stayed. So let’s review the My Place Tucson South hotel and I’ll give you the inside scoop.

Location – My Place Tucson South
This hotel is located in somewhat of a newer development in Tucson, with a few stores and chain restaurants nearby, some of which you could walk to. This area isn’t built up too much so there was plenty of parking and it’s easy to get in and out of.
As mentioned above, this hotel maybe opened a month before I stayed here? So it’s brand new.

Rooms at the My Place Tucson South
This is an extended-stay hotel and all rooms come with a kitchenette. So you’ll have a two-burner stove, a full size refrigerator and a dishwasher. But, keep in mind that this is a bare-bones extended stay hotel; it is NOT a Residence Inn. There is no table, no utensils or kitchenware and the room is very small. I guess I found the lack of kitchenware kind of odd; do they expect travelers to bring a saucepan and a cutlery set with them? I lived in a hotel for over a year — I lived at a Residence Inn and I absolutely loved it — it was essentially a 1 bedroom furnished apartment with everything I needed. If you are reading this looking for an extended stay hotel, I would probably look elsewhere. I just stayed here for one night, so I didn’t need all the bells and whistles.

I had a room with a queen bed and a recliner (they make a big deal about this goddamn recliner on their website, as if some schmuck who is looking to book a room is going to be persuaded to stay here because of an upholstered chair). They also offer rooms with two queen beds.

Bathroom was fine, shower pressure good. No complaints!
I will say though, this bed! Wow! This was seriously one of the BEST BEDS I’ve ever slept in. It rivals my bed at home. The pillows were perfect!
Amenities – My Place Tucson South
Amenities? What amenities? Because there aren’t any here. No fitness center, no pool, no hot tub, no free breakfast.
They boast of a “breakfast in bed” service which I found laughable. Essentially, they’ll put a bag of food outside your door that consists of a crappy Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich and a mini box of cereal, all for the low, low price of $7.95. However, they do have free coffee in the lobby.

They do have a laundry room for guests, but I didn’t use it as I had just started my trip when I stayed here.

My Place Tucson South – Final Thoughts, Pros and Cons
Overall — I like it, I like it, I really really like it.” The location is safe and looks to be in a newer development of Tucson. There is a Planet Fitness next door (walkable distance, it’s across the street), which I used the next morning. I would definitely stay here again — for a short stay — if I had to stay here long term, I’d stay elsewhere. Plus the bed!! AMAZING.
Pros
The bed was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve ever slept in.
Good price
Brand new hotel
Quiet area
I had fun with the Nelly puns!
Cons
Very bare bones, like an extended stay Motel 6
No kitchen cookware provided.
No free breakfast
No gym
In other words, it’s a decent place for one night and has the amenities available for those wanting a longer stay. However, as someone who lived in a hotel for nearly two years back in 2020-2021, I wouldn’t chose the MyPlace chain of hotels for an extended stay, all due to the cons listed here. A MyPlace hotel is the brand equivalent to an Extended Stay America, Candlewood Suites, or a Woodspring Suites hotel. I stayed at a Woodsprings Suites hotel on this same trip to Tucson, and I reviewed it here.
