Vid Lonid Guesthouse – Honest Review: Seydisfjordur, Iceland
We stayed at the Vid Lonid Guesthouse in Seydisfjordur Iceland for one night on our Ring Road trip. This was one of the best places we stayed on our trip and I highly recommend it if you plan on staying in the cute harbor town of Seydisfjordur. I’ll give you an honest review of the Vid Lonid Guesthouse so you can determine if this would be a great place to stay on your Iceland ring road trip – let’s begin!

Location – Vid Lonid Guesthouse
Seydisfjordur is located on the Eastern Fjords of Iceland, about a 30 minute drive from Egilsstaðir, Iceland, which is considered to be the largest town in the eastern area of Iceland.
To get to Seydisfjordur (and the Vid Lonid guesthouse), you will need to drive up and over a mountain pass. The road is completely paved, however, this was one of the scariest roads we drove on in Iceland, simply because the visibility every time we drove on it was next to nothing. Fog is very common over this pass; at some points during the drive, we couldn’t even see a few feet in front of us. I’m sure it’s beautiful on a clear day though!

But as we descended down the pass and into the town of Seydisfjordur, visibility cleared up and we made a few photo stops along the way to photograph some waterfalls.
The Vid Lonid Guesthouse is located right in all the ‘action’ (if you’d call it that!) of Seydisfjordur. You’ve probably seen photos of the rainbow road that leads to a quaint church — the guesthouse is located right on the rainbow road and the banks of the fjord.

Rooms at the Vid Lonid Guesthouse
The Vid Lonid Guesthouse is a small guesthouse with only a few rooms available. You will enter the guesthouse through a common entryway where you can get your key. Shoes are not allowed beyond this point so make sure to remove them! Some rooms face the harbor while others face the rainbow street. We had a room that faced the rainbow street on the lower level. All rooms have private bathrooms.

This is a wonderful guesthouse – our room was immaculately clean and had modern furnishigns. A hairdryer and a coffee maker are provided. Toiletries provided are from the Blue Lagoon — they’re really nice! There is free WiFi, but no air conditioning (as with most Iceland hotels). Not an issue as it was only about 55 degrees here in July.

Parking is free — you can park across the street in the small lot.
There is no breakfast provided here and breakfast offerings are very limited in the area. We just had granola bars.
Seydisfjorder is on the cruise port route and it’s also the port for the ferry to Denmark. Both were in port when we were here so up until the cruise ship departed, this little town was quite busy!

One of the best things about staying here (other than how cozy and comfortable this place is!) is that you have the opportunity to snap photos of the rainbow road/blue church without anyone in them after the crowds leave.

And of course, since the guesthouse is located in the heart of town, you can walk to the shops and restaurants. There’s also a small grocery store just a few blocks away. There isn’t a whole lot to see in Seydisfjordur itself but even so, I loved how quaint and picturesque this town was! We opted to stay here vs staying in Egilsstadir (a much larger town) for the fjord views and we were not disappointed!
We took a drive to see the puffins at Borgarfjordur Eystri while we stayed here. Read about my experience – I highly recommend adding this to your Iceland itinerary if you’re visiting in the summer months.
Vid Lonid Guesthouse – Final Thoughts
I just loved staying here – this was such a cute guesthouse and the location was amazing. While there’s not a whole lot to do in Seydisfjordur itself, the views are much nicer than the nearby town of Egilsstadir, if you don’t mind a 30 minute detour from the Ring Road. I would absolutely stay here again!
Pros:
Immaculately clean, modern, comfy rooms
Amazing location
Try to get a room with a balcony
Beautiful, serene setting in the fjords
Cons:
Seydisfjordur is a cruise port stop. You will have people walking literally right outside your window if your room faces the rainbow street.
Not much to do in Seydisfjordur itself
30 minute detour from the main Ring Road
